C&S Events: Natural Disasters, Recovery and Resiliency

As cities grapple with the increasing intensity of hurricanes and rising sea levels, how should communities and governments respond? At our Front Page Roundtable event on December 7th, we convened a panel to discuss this, as well as the impact of recent actions on the Federal level.
The members of the panel included:
Jainey Bavishi, Director of Recovery and Resiliency for the New York City Mayor’s Office.
Mark Treyger, New York City Councilman representing Coney Island and other areas in South Brooklyn. He also is the chair of the council’s committee on recovery and resiliency.
Jane Brogen, Policy Director for the Governor’s Office of Storm Recovery.
Josh Lockwood, Regional Chief Executive Officer at the American Red Cross.
The panel was moderated by NY1 reporter Josh Robin, who has reported extensively on these issues.

Carlo Scissura Builds an Agenda

Some things are changing in New York politics – like the make up of the new city council. Some things are staying the same – like a political dispute between de Blasio and Cuomo. And some things are in a state of flux – like which party will be controlling the state senate.

Carlo Scissura, president and CEO of the New York Building Congress joins us to talk about how these factors are affecting his group. He also talks about the state of the BQX, his hopes for Rikers Island, and tells us where he falls on the latest Cuomo/de Blasio fight over paying for the MTA.
